Everything you need to know about our premium cedar products.
🪵 About Our Cedar
What makes incense cedar different from regular firewood?
Incense cedar (Calocedrus decurrens) is a premium softwood native to the mountains of the Western United States. It is prized for its aromatic scent, clean burn, easy lighting, and natural insect-repelling properties. Unlike hardwoods that can be difficult to ignite, cedar kindles quickly and produces a fragrant, crackling fire — perfect for fire pits, fireplaces, and campfires.
Where do you source your cedar?
All of our cedar is sustainably harvested from fallen trees in the West Coast. We never cut live trees. Our parent company, Double Tree Forest Management, has been managing forests since 2006. The cedar we sell is a byproduct of responsible land clearing and forest health projects.
Is your cedar kiln-dried?
We offer both kiln-dried and naturally sun-dried cedar. Incense cedar has a naturally low moisture content compared to hardwoods, so even our sun-dried cedar ignites easily and burns cleanly. Our kiln-dried cedar takes it a step further with even lower moisture for maximum performance.
🔥 Cedar Kindling & Firewood
How do I use cedar kindling?
Place a few pieces of cedar kindling at the base of your fire, add your larger firewood on top, and light the kindling. Cedar ignites quickly and produces enough sustained flame to catch your main firewood — no newspaper, chemicals, or fire starters needed. It works great in fireplaces, fire pits, wood stoves, and campfires.
Can I use cedar firewood as my main firewood?
Yes! Our premium cedar firewood burns clean with a beautiful aromatic scent and satisfying crackle. It is ideal for fire pits and outdoor fires. For long-burning indoor fires, many customers like to start with cedar and then add hardwood once the fire is established.
How should I store my cedar?
Store cedar kindling and firewood in a dry, covered area. A garage, shed, or covered porch works great. Cedar is naturally resistant to moisture and insects, but keeping it dry ensures the best performance. Our packaging is designed for easy stacking and storage.
🌿 Cedar Chips, Granules & CedarLock
What are cedar chips used for?
Our cedar chips are perfect for landscaping, garden mulch, pathways, pet bedding, and decorative ground cover. They offer natural weed suppression, moisture retention, and a beautiful aromatic scent that freshens outdoor spaces.
What are Insect Defense Cedar Granules?
Our cedar granules are finely processed cedar that can be spread around foundations, gardens, patios, and outdoor living areas. Cedar contains natural aromatic oils that many common household insects find unpleasant, making granules a popular choice for outdoor perimeter treatment.
What is CedarLock Oil Absorbent?
CedarLock is our industrial-grade cedar absorbent designed for cleaning up oil, grease, coolant, and other liquid spills. It is lightweight, highly absorbent, 100% biodegradable, and dust-free — making it a superior alternative to clay-based absorbents. Ideal for garages, workshops, warehouses, and commercial facilities.
Why choose cedar firewood over hardwood?
Hardwood like oak and hickory burns hot and slow — ideal for heating, but it produces small, dull flames and very little aroma. Incense cedar is the experience firewood: bright, tall flames that light up the night, a rich aromatic scent that fills the air, and natural insect-deterring properties. If you are buying firewood for a fire pit, fireplace ambience, or outdoor gathering, cedar delivers the show that hardwood cannot.
Does cedar firewood repel insects?
Yes. Incense cedar contains natural aromatic oils that many common insects — including mosquitoes — find unpleasant. Burning cedar firewood in your fire pit or fireplace creates a naturally more pleasant environment compared to unscented hardwood.
